WHAT’S THE PROBLEM?

Dads often struggle to define their role in birth, and this is especially true when they are participating in birth choices that take on more responsibility than what has typically occurred in the modern medical birth of the Western world. This class aims to bring specialized knowledge and skills to the birth professionals who are working with the dads who are either confused about their role or refusing to get on board with the empowered choices of their partners.

WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO ABOUT IT?

We are going to use skills from the counseling world to help inspire and support our clients. Birth professionals who are Dad Certified™ are able to do the following:

  1. Identify feelings, needs, and concerns for clients
  2. Support clients in understanding complex emotions and getting needs met
  3. Ask strategic questions to explore client concerns
  4. Identify a dad’s motivation to become involved in the birth of his child
  5. Offer support to a dad in a way that is sensitive to his needs and helps his motivation to become involved
  6. Communicate in non-violent ways with clients
  7. Help clients resolve conflict at a therapeutic level
